DIETRY TIPS FOR CONTROLLING AND TREATING DIABETES:
FOOD ITEMS PERMITTED:
1. ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER: put them only when tea or milk has been cooled, do not use it in boiling milk/tea. Can use 2-3 tablets per day. One should limit their intake, as prolonged use of artificial sweetener leads to bad taste in mouth, headache and nausea. Stevia is a natural artificial sweetener and can be use safely.
1 Fruits: Jamun, amla, lemon, orange, tomatoes, papaya, pear, guava, strawberry, figs, mausambi, singhara. Daily 100 gms of fruit can be taken as a meal not with main meal.
2. Vegetables: Methi, palak, karela, bathua, saag, sitaphal, kakdi, tori, tinda, green pepper, bhindi, turnip, kheera, chana, soya, carrots, garlic, tomatoes, lettuce.
3. Fiber: Brown rice, whole dal, bran, soybean, chana, rajma, lobia, sprouts, brown bread, oats, Dalia.
4. Juice: Karela, carrots, palak, lauki, turnip, cauliflower,
5. Non-Veg: tandoori or boiled chicken/ fish, eggs
6. Oils: Flaxseeds, soybean, Mustard, sunflower, total oil: 3-4 teaspoon. For good fats one can eat handful of groundnuts.
7. Milk: low fat milk, paneer, curd
FOOD ITEMS NOT PERMITTED:
1. Sugar: sugar, gur, mithai, chocolate, pastry, ice cream
2. Sweet fruits: Apple, banana, cheeku, mango, grapes,leechi, pear sweet, custard apple
3. Veg: potato, arbi, sweet potato,
4. Oils: desi ghee, coconut oil, butter, cream, khoya, paneer,
5. Non-Veg: Egg yolk , keema, liver, mutton
6. Avoid: maida, rice,
