CAUSES: Allergy, such as air pollutants; change of weather, Exposure to cold air .Infection due to bacteria, virus.
Do’s and Don’ts
- Avoid dairy products like plain milk, curd, chaach,butter, cheese; Rice, Maida, banana because these will increase mucus in the respiratory system. You can take milk with ginger or dalchini. ( boil half inch grated ginger or pinch of dalchini powder in milk; strain and drink) .
- Avoid dry and overheated rooms.
- Avoid exposure to coldness -because these act as factors to lower your immunity and lead to respiratory infection.
- Steam inhalations will provide a good relief. Take rest at home and keep yourself warm.
Take warm water gargles to soothe your throat. - Avoid exposure to paint or dust or exhaust fumes and also people with cold.
DIETARY RECOMMENDATION:
- Drink lots of warm water throughout the day, even a hot glass of water with a teaspoon of ginger juice will do.
- Hot beverages like Ginger or Tulasi tea, soup, chicken broth are especially soothing
HOME REMEDIES:
- Anti mucus concoction: honey ½ tsp + ¼ tsp cinnamon powder taken with warm water.
- Prepare a mixture of ginger powder, black pepper and cloves, have a teaspoon with honey. It will help in immunity against allergies.
- Turmeric boiled in milk is used to treat cough, cold and is a useful decongestant, it should be taken in morning empty stomach. Turmeric milk- milk+ ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder or ½ inch grated raw turmeric + ½ inch grated ginger ; boil this for few minutes – strain and add sugar or honey to taste.
- Put 5-6 drops of eucalyptus oil or Olesan drops in 2 cups of water in your steamer and inhale .Do this 2-3 times.
