Home Remedies for Constipation

  • Prunes: munaka: eat around 6-8 prunes everyday for their laxative effect. For kids soak 6-8 in water, grind and give to the kid.
  • Wheat bran: Add wheat bran to your chapattis ( 2 tsp ) or add to soups to thicken them. Drink 10-12 of water a day with wheat bran to prevent gas formation.

  • Water: take 4 glasses of lukewarm water empty stomach, and 6-8 glasses the rest of the day.
  • Fruits: Banana, Apricots, Bael, guava, papaya, apple, Kiwi, pear, plums, grapes are constipation busters.
  • Dates: Soak 4-5 dates  in water at night, mash it next morning into fine syrup and drink it slowly for its laxative properties. It stimulates peristalsis and is very energizing too.
  • Vegetables- cucumbers, carrots, spinach keep constipation at bay.
  • Raw spinach juice mixed with equal quantity of water taken twice daily cure most cases of chronic constipation
  • Figs: 2-3 figs a day help provide the required bulk to stools and stimulate peristalsis. You can soak them overnight – grind and drink the juice in morning.
  • Mix equal quantities of Senna leaves+ Saunf+ Rose petals – take 2 tsp before sleeping, helps in clearing bowels; but do not make it a daily habit.
  • Taking Triphala powder or isabgol husk with warm water or milk before sleeping also helps to check constipation
